The new version of the program increases the support given to organizations to prevent the loss of confidential information, with an enhanced ability for SQL database scanning.
Vontu can now scan thousands of databases to locate sensitive data which may not have been correctly stored.
It can also perform a systematic audit across a large number of databases, according to the company.
Web Users Face Security Risks From 'Everyday Sites'

The company says that users face increased risks of infection by web attacks from visiting everyday web sites.
It claims that hackers are using genuine web sites as a means to distribute potentially dangerous material which can attack computers either at home or in work. Symantec found that social networking sites are increasingly being targeted by attackers.
Symantec Chosen for Missouri's Email Archiving

The State of Missouri has selected Symantec as its official partner in its email archiving directive.
Symantec's Enterprise Vault will be used by the states Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), which handles more than 1.5 million emails per day.
The program is a software archiving platform which the company claims can "protect corporate information, reduce storage costs and simplify management".
Missouri State Government already uses Symantec's Norton AntiVirusprogram to safeguard its IT infrastructure from attacks.

Drive-by Pharming Attacks Become a Reality

Early in 2007, Symantec warned that so-called drive-by pharming attacks could become a major threat.
In these, a user has only to view a web page or open an e-mail which contained embedded malicious code to become infected. The system could then change the DNS (Domain Name System) settings on a victim's router.
