'The Beatles Music to be Used in Future Video Game'

Representatives of the band's back catalogue have reportedly had meetings with Activision and MTV Games about creating a title similar to the respective company's Guitar Hero or Rock Band franchises.
The Financial Times reports that the surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, remain cautious about issuing their albums on new platforms. They have still not allowed Apple to sell their music through its online iTunes store.
Paramount Facing Lawsuit over Godfather Video Games

It is claimed that the studio owes it at least $1 million in revenue from a breach of contract signed between the author and Paramount.
The Hollywood Reporter says that in 1992 the contract gave Paramount licensing rights for anything that embodied the Godfather saga. Anthony Puzo, the author's son and representative of the estate, claims that the video game is covered in the agreement.
Grand Theft Auto 4 Drives up US Video Game Sales

Market research firm NPD claims that sales of hardware and software reached $1.12 billion in May, reports Reuters.
Take-Two Interactive's Grand Theft Auto 4 was named as the best selling game for the month, having already sold 4.2 million units in the US since it was released at the end of April.
NPD also says that the US video games industry could see a total revenue of $23 billion by the end of 2008.
AMD Launch Initiative for Gamers

The AMD Game! Platform is supported by companies such as Acer, Alienware, Logitech and Microsoft.
AMD claims that its gaming platforms combine the power of multi-core processors, HD digital media technology and next-generation graphics power. The company says that the Game! initiative ensures that computer systems are optimized with the right graphics and processor components for superior gaming.
Nigel Dessau, vice president of AMD, said that the new initiative ensures that consumers do not need "enthusiast-level knowledge" of PC hardware to find an optimal gaming system.
"We in the PC industry owe consumers the same predictability, simplicity and affordability in finding a PC for gaming that the console industry currently provides," he added.
AMD recently introduced new lower quad-power options for its Opteron processors and the first energy-efficient x86 server processor in the industry.

Video Games Sales Increase

Research by market research firm NPD showed that sales of gaming hardware, software and accessories hit $1.7 billion during March.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier said: "You'd never know that the US economy was under distress by looking at the video games industry sales figures."
The Nintendo Wii contributed to the increase in sales, with 720,000 consoles sold during the month. Its game Super Smash Bros: Brawl, sold 2.7 million units across the US in March.
The Sims Sells 100 Million Worldwide

Since the first version of the game was released in 2000, the franchise has expanded to be sold in 60 countries and in 22 languages.
Rod Humble, head of studio for The Sims label, announced: "We want to thank players of The Sims everywhere for making The Sims such a worldwide phenomenon."
Take-Two Appoints New Asia President

Hubert Larenaudie, who has held senior roles with Electronic Arts and Vivendi, has joined the company to head its expansion into the region.
Mr Larenaudie said: "Many of Take-Two's franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto, Midnight Club, Sid Meier's Civilization and BioShock are international hits, and already have attracted large and enthusiastic fan bases in markets such as Japan, South Korea and China.
